Pantene Phillippines #whipit Labels against women

It sickens me to read the comments on this video and see all the people who don’t believe that this is how things are.

Because let me tell you, this is accurate. Powerful men are assumed to be strong, intelligent leaders, while powerful women are seen as bossy and mean.  Furthermore, successful men are assumed to have achieved their success through ability, while successful women are just seen as lucky.

There is such a double standard and I’m so upset about how many people don’t realize that it exists

(props to the company for using this as their ad though, I’m impressed that they did that, and it’s really important to point out)

As a Filipina, this ad depicts the truth about us— that we, as women, still have to earn respect from men. It astounds me that here in my country, married women deems it normal for their husbands to physically hurt them. And my friends ask me why I will never marry here in my country or never marry at all. Do they still have to question my decision? That my aunts continue to be hurt by their husbands and my uncles never cease to hurt their wives— I JUST CANNOT. My mom & dad, they’re the lucky ones. I won’t back down for anyone, especially A MAN.

a little over a year ago, i simple couldn’t wait to share with everyone the fact that Derek and I had finally got Little Gotham off the ground and into an actual series thru DC. A passion project that took over 6 years to get picked up, endless nights after hours, after “real” work ( imagine drawing 16 hours a day 7 days a week- thats normal work hours for a monthly comicbook), countless trial and error, lots of naysaying, and more conventions than i wanted to do every year to spread the idea that this COULD work as a book.

In part of a pitch to the big guys upstairs, i expressed that this “is as close to a creator owned batman book that i can get without EVER owning anything”, they finally let us do it. we pitched 12 chapters, they gave us 24. It was more than we could have asked for. Obstacles didnt mean a thing along the way,  we did the best we could with what we had- and what characters we had.

tonight, i painted my last Lil Gotham page and it feels AMAZING.

I am optimistic of things to come with both the sales in the trade and the printed issues that will run well into 2014. I know the stories to live on thru collections, the growing development of digital distribution,  and really- just the many word of mouth that got us picked up in the first place, by folks that genuinely understood the fun and heart that goes into our stories.

thank you guys. Everyone that’s ever re-blogged, tumbled, re-posted a sketch, picked up a print and said to a friend or stranger passing by them on the convention floor, ” oh this? dustin did this, his table’s over there” or just simply gave the post a like- your support is definitely appreciated. You got me this gig.

Could there be more Lil Gotham in the future? Again, optimism takes over and i i honestly cant see why the hell not, we got this far.

with the whole n52 mess going on lil gotham is one of a few good things dc has to offer and i’m sure we’re all going to miss it ;; thank you for proving comics can still bring a big smile to people’s faces, for letting us have our favorite characters back and giving a little piece of good old dc with each issue ♥ looking forward to see our lil heroes coming back in the future!

Ernest Hemingway once won a bet by crafting a six-word short story, that can make people cry. Here it is.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why Hemingway is one of (if not THE) most powerful authors I’ve ever studied.

I remember this.

I don’t get it….oh….OH.

My English teacher had us write 6-word short stories using this beautiful piece of writing as a template.
Mine was: “He hung from his boyfriend’s belt.”
Is it bad that she cried?
